Dredging is currently occurring in:

The Entrance of Port Phillip Bay (Project Area 4)

Yarra River (Project Area 1)

Port Melbourne Channel (Project Area 2)

Vessel undertaking works: 

Trailer Suction Hopper Dredge,Queen of the Netherlands  (Entrance)

Grab Dredge, Goomai (Yarra River)

Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge, Cornelis Zanen (CoZa)

Dredge material placed in:

South East Dredge Material Ground (Material from Entrance) 

Port of Melbourne Dredge Material Ground, Confined Aquatic Disposal Facility (Material from Yarra River and Port Melbourne Channel)

Visible outcomes of works: Turbid plumes can be expected in the vicinity of dredging works.

Further information on daily activities in each project area are available in the tables below (n/a = no activities):

Project Area 1: Yarra River & Hobsons Bay 

Dredging works: Grab dredge, the Goomai,  is scheduled to continue dredging works south of the West Gate Bridge in the Yarra River today and over the weekend (16-18 May).  Throughout the project, the dredge will carry out selected dredging works around existing underwater services and docks.

Dredged material will be placed in the Port of Melbourne Dredged Material Ground.

 

Project Area 2: North of Bay

Dredging works: The CoZa  continues operations in the Port Melbourne Channel today and over the weekend (16-18 May).  The vessel will carry out the dredging and bund construction started by Queen of the Netherlands earlier this year. The CoZa will also sail to South Channel East to dredge loads of sand for hopper cleaning.

Dredged material will be placed in the Port of Melbourne Dredged Material Ground.

 

Project Area 3: South of Bay

Dredging works: n/a

Project Area 4: The Entrance

Dredging works:   Queen of the Netherlands  is scheduled to continue dredging on the Nepean Bank at the Entrance of the bay (16-18 May).

Daily activity updates will be provided on weekdays outlining the planned works for the next 24 hours (am to am). The Friday daily activity update will outline the planned works for that day and the weekend to follow (Friday am to Monday am).
